How We Test AI Visibility

We pick 3–5 realistic homeowner search phrases per market — the way a real customer would actually ask, not SEO-style keywords — and run them against ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. We log the full response and every source it cites, then repeat the same queries over time to see what changes. That log is cross-referenced against the contractor's existing website, listings, and reviews to find the specific gap.

This is directional, not exhaustive: model outputs vary by session and location, and a single query run is a sample, not a census.

Why Review Volume Alone Doesn't Win AI Citations

ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews are retrieval-based — they favor sources they can parse, cross-reference, and trust, not raw star ratings. A business with fewer reviews but clear service-area pages, consistent name/address/phone data across directories, and citable third-party mentions can out-cite a business with more reviews but a thin, unstructured web presence. Review volume still matters for trust signals; it just isn't the mechanism these systems retrieve on.
